    • Matho Monastery, or Matho Gonpa or Mangtro Monastery or Mangtro Gonpa, from the Tibetan “mang” that means “many” and “tro” that means “happyness”, is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located 26 kilometres southeast of Leh in Ladakh.
    • Hemis Monastery- Hemis Monastery is revered as the largest monastic institution in Ladakh district of Jammu and Kashmir in north India. The monastery has more than 200 branches with more than 1,000 monks in the Himalayan region.
    • Shanti Stupa- Evening we visit Shanti Stupa at Sun Set time. A magnificent white-domed structure, The Japanese for World Peace built the Shanti Stupa, at Changspa, on the hilltop, and was inaugurated by Dalai Lama in 1985.
    • Overnight in Leh.

  • LEH – NUBRA VALLEY VIA KHARDUNGLA (DRIVE 170 KMS / 05 HOURS)- HUNDER-DISKIT

Having gotten used to 10,000+ feet heights, we will now head towards the highest point that we will ever reach during the tour. Be ready to see the mountains capes like you have never seen before.

As we slowly climb up the Ladakh Ranges towards Khardung La, you will see jagged snowy peaks of Zanskar Ranges challenging the heights we are climbing. Once on top, you will no longer have to crane your neck to see all the mountains rising tall in the distance; those peaks appear almost at your height. Besides the thrill of having gone up the world’s highest motorable pass, you will get to see vistas that you will never forget for the rest of your life.

We will continue driving past Khardung La and descend on the other side at Nubra, known for its wide valley, green landscapes, a gushing river, gentle streams, lush agrarian landscapes and shepherds herding their sheep in the evening hours. There is more! In these mountain landscapes with greenery unusual for Ladakh, you will also see a stretch of white-sand dunes that springs a sudden surprise. See Bactrian Camels roaming the Seabuckthorn jungles of Nubra. It is going to be a pleasant evening today in Nubra, amidst the greenery at the river bed and a beautiful sunset.

    Overnight in Diskit.

  • DISKIT

Morning and evening shoot in Diskit. The huge golden statue of the Buddha here is a sight to behold. Visit Diskit monastery. Overnight in Diskit.

  • NUBRA VALLEY – VIA WARILA- SAKTI VILLAGE (160 KMS / 05 HOURS DRIVE)

In time drive to Shakti village via Wari La. On Arrival, check in at Guest house. Shakti village is a large village situated 40km west of Leh along the Indus valley at the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers. The village is characterized by impressive mountain scenery, and is considered exceptionally fertile in Ladakhi terms – lush green fields and apricot, apple, and walnut orchards abound.Rest day at leisure. Overnight in Shakti village.

  • SAKTI VILLAGE – TSOKAR (195 KMS / 06 HOURS)

After breakfast we will drive to incredible lake, but this one is a salt lake called Tso Kar. Tso Kar is also home to nomadic people, some of whom have made their base at the remote Thukje Village where we will be staying. The residents of this village take their cattle out to graze on the Morae plains during the summer and then they retreat to Thukje in the winter. Both of these incredible lakes are not only home to nomadic tribespeople but also wonderful Himalayan wildlife like Kiangs. Overnight in Tsokar.

  • Ladakh Photography Tour TSOKAR – TSOMORIRI LAKE (DRIVE 110 KMS – 03 HOURS)

Today we will drive from high altitude pastoral areas of Tso Moriri. Enroute we will stop to visit nomadic herders and sightsee in tiny villages.

Tso Moriri Lake in the Changthang region of Ladakh is one of the most beautiful, calm and sacred (for Ladakhis) high altitude lakes in India. In fact, it is the largest high altitude lake in India that is entirely in Indian Territory. This beautiful blue pallet lake is about 7 KM wide at its broadest point and about 19 KM long. The beautiful multi shades of blue colour offered by this lake, along with a picturesque landscape around it, gives this place an extremely romantic and breath-taking feel. However, in actual reality the place is extremely harsh and difficult to survive especially in winters. Overnight in Tsomoriri.

  • TSOMORIRI LAKE – THIKSEY (DRIVE 202 KMS – 5 HOURS)

Early morning shoot at Tsomoriri Lake. Today we will drive to Thiksey via mahe bridge and chumathang hot spring on way. On arrival, check in at hotel. Day at leisure. Overnight in Thiksey.

Thiksey Monastery- Thiksey Monastery is the largest monastery in central Ladakh district in Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated 18 km from Leh in the Indus valley. The Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism is located at the top of hill. The monastery is famous for its architecture and its location. The 12 storey monastery has 10 temples, an assembly hall, and is home to 120 monks and nunnery in Ladakh Photography Tour

The monastery buildings are structured in hierarchal order. The monastery is referred as ‘Mini Potala’ of India as it resembles Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet. There is one big statue of Maitreya (future Buddha) which covers almost two floor of the monastery that is 40 feet in height. Tara temple of Goddess Tara is another major attraction for the visitors. Apart from visiting monastery one can also find some rare and precious stupas, statues, thangkas, wall paintings and swords in the monastery. Due to its proximity to Leh the morning prayer at the monastery attracts huge crowds. The monastery offers clear view of the Indus Valley and some monastery like Shey, Stok and Matho can also be seen from here. Festivals celebration is another major attraction for the tourists, locals and Buddhists in Thiksey Monastery.

  • THIKSEY – LAMAYURU (DRIVE 145 KM – 5 HOURS)

Early morning, visit to Thiksey monastery. Lamayuru is one of the largest and oldest gompas in Ladakh, with a population of around 150 permanent monks resident. It has, in the past, housed up to 400 monks, many of which are now based in gompas in surrounding villages.

Lamayuru is famous for moon like landscape similar to lunar terrain. The landscape founds favour with photographers and trekkers. The mountain slopes below the village once supported a now-drained-off gigantic lake. The slopes that were once under lake water look like yellow butter over dark-brown mountains that rise steeply from the base of the valley referred as moonland by the locals. With the passage of time, erosion from wind and water had created curious patterns all over the slopes some look like castles, some like sand dunes and some like massive cheese with holes in them.

Check-in at Hotel. Day at leisure. After dinner, it’s an ideal place to shoot Milky Way. Overnight in Lamayuru monastery in Ladakh Photography Tour

  • LAMAYURU

Morning and evening photoshoot in Lamayuru monastery. Late night shoot of Milky Way. Overnight in Lamayuru.

  • LAMAYURU – LEH ENROUTE VISIT ALCHI MONASTERY AND SANGAM (CONFLUENCE OF ZANSKAR AND INDUS RIVER)

Ladakh Photography Tour. After breakfast, drive to Leh. Enroute visit Alchi monastery and confluence of Zanskar and Indus river.

Alchi Monastey- Renowned as the oldest Buddhist learning centre in Ladakh, Alchi Monastery is located 70 km from Leh in Jammu and Kashmir in north India on the bank of Indus River. A national heritage site, it is distinct from other monasteries in Ladakh as it is situated on flat ground unlike others which are located on hilltops. The foundation of the monastery was laid by Tibetan translator Rinchen Zangpo in the middle of 12th century. The only thing that tells the history is the ancient monuments and paintings of the monastery. Archaeological Survey of India is helping preserve the monastery. Villagers of Alchi are quite traditional and staunch believers in their culture, so that makes the village a cultural site too.

Confluence of Zanskar and Indus river- Indus river is originated from the great Himalayan ranges and Zanskar river originates from Zanskar ranges. Zanskar river is shiny blue in colour, on the other hand Indus looks a little green. Zanskar meets Indus in Nimmu valley from the north-east. This is a scenic view for the visitors and they find it fascinating to mark both the rivers even after their confluence.

Later drive to Leh. On arrival, check in at hotel. Overnight at hotel in Ladakh Photography Tour

  • LEH-DELHI

Early morning departure at airport. On arrival at Delhi airport, transfer to Hotel for overnight stay. Day at leisure.

  • DELHI DEPARTURE

On time, transfer to International airport.

    Beautiful India

India was on my bucket list for some time now and I couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide than Harsh Agarwal! He was knowledgeable, insightful and highly accommodating to our group, which seemed more like a job of herding cats. And he did it all with a smile. He was punctual yet flexible and open to changes (from us) in our itinerary. We had plenty of personal time to rest and recoup from some of our longer tour days. When temperatures peaked in the middle of the day, he would recommend we leave earlier or later in the day to make sure we didn’t get heatstroke. When we went to the Taj Mahal, we beat the massive crowds by arriving earlier than everybody else and avoiding the thousands of tourists. Our pictures turned out great! (By the way, he’s a professional photographer which made my shoddy, amateur pictures look amazing!)

Harsh took us to the most sought-after places in Northern India: Delhi, Agra, Bharatpur, and Jaipur. He set us up in the best hotels (4 and 5 star only), and treated us to the most appetizing Indian cuisine.

Harsh is a wonderful human being and we not only became friends but we bonded like brothers. I look forward to returning to India and seeing him again to tour beautiful India through his cultural lense.
